  • Commune labeled "Small City of Character", Guémené owes its origin to a feudal mound built around 1050 by a lord named Guégant. It is from this that originates the old denomination Kemenet Gégant which later gave its name to the city. However, it was the Rohan-Guémené family that marked the city with its imprint for several generations. From this rich history, we retain the vestiges of the castle that one can visit now but especially the "Bains de la Reine" medieval stove enriched with a museum space that gives us all the secrets of hygiene in the Middle Ages. A stroll through the streets and alleys of the historic center is necessary to discover the charm of the old houses, worthy heiresses of the Middle Ages. To discover these old districts, go to the tourist office to remove the suggested route to make a nice urban walk. Finally, one can not evoke Guémené without immediately thinking of his famous andouille and his inexhaustible producers on the artisanal manufacture of this specialty which is the pride of the Guémenois. This famous andouille, recommended by the greatest chefs of French gastronomy, gives rise to a big celebration every year at the end of August.
