Inaugurated in 1987, the museum is housed in a former convent of Ursulines of the seventeenth century. His collection of more than 400 works consists of paintings, drawings, etchings. The first core of this municipal fund was formed in 1913 at the initiative of the then deputy mayor Victor Robic, thanks to the friendly relations he had with artists frequenting the locality. The collection is presented in part, alongside the annual temporary exhibitions. By decree of January 16, 2012, the museum of Faouët obtained from the Ministry of the culture the name "museum of France". The museum attracts many lovers of fine arts, seduced by the importance and quality of the exhibitions presented there. Since 1992, the museum has devoted major retrospectives to the work of artists who have practiced their art in this small pictorial city: Mathurin Méheut, his pupil Yvonne Jean-Haffen, Marius Borgeaud, David-Nillet Germain, Lucien-Victor Delpy, Emile Compard, Arthur Midy, Jean Bouchaud ... and temporary exhibitions on regional themes (A century of painting at Faouët, The child in Breton painting, 100 professions seen by artists in Brittany ...). Exhibition 2019: "Painters between land and sea. From Faouët to Concarneau", from March 31st to October 6th, 2019.
