Since the nineteenth century, the region of Gouraine has been an important center for the extraction of granite, sandstone and especially slate. With the arrival of the train in 1896, the quarries took a remarkable rise. Their exploitation has been maintained to this day, except for slate quarries, which were abandoned in 1962 for both technical and competitive reasons (Spain). In agreement with the municipality of Gourin, the association "Traditions and Heritage in Black Mountains" (TPMN) manages an annex of the castle of Tronjoly including: A House of Geology in which is exposed the memory of this industrial past in the form of photos of mining sites, workers, patrons, administrative archives, tools, etc. These elements are placed in the geological context of Gourin and Central West Brittany. The objects are presented from a pedagogical angle, school groups are many to visit us. A Workshop of Old Tools. The city has a large collection of tools from the collection of Dr. Groazel, former doctor of Gourin. They have been grouped in a place where they are presented by profession (carpenter, clog maker, blacksmith ...). Outside the building, some agricultural machinery and a press of the nineteenth century are exposed.
